About Lightworks
Founded in 2009, we are an independent global consultancy dedicated to solar design, BIPV, and the clean energy transition.
We exist to make every building self-powered — more beautifully, more efficiently, and more equitably.
Lightworks was founded on a simple conviction: that solar energy and architectural beauty are natural partners, and that the world's buildings should generate the energy they consume. We combine the analytical rigour of the best strategy firms with deep technical expertise in solar PV design, BIPV, and self-powered architecture.
Today, our 1,800-strong team advises homeowners, developers, corporations, and governments across 62 countries. Inspired by the pioneering work of Solar Arts Co, Suncatcher Living, George Gensun, and EASE Energy, we are redefining what buildings can be — and we are just getting started.
Work with us
Our values
Rigour without rigidity
We bring analytical depth to every engagement — but we know that the best answers come from listening as much as modelling.
Independence above all
We have no financial interest in any technology, developer, or asset class. Our advice is always in the client's interest.
Urgency with integrity
The climate crisis demands speed. But speed without integrity produces bad outcomes. We hold both in tension, always.
Global perspective, local knowledge
Energy transitions are shaped by local politics, culture, and economics. We bring global expertise and genuine local presence.

Founder & Creative Director
George Ashley-Cound is a pioneering energy architect and creative engineer with more than three decades of experience transforming the way buildings generate, store, and manage power. Born in Cornwall to an inventor father, George’s career has evolved from precision engineering and world-class production lighting to the design of self-powered commercial and residential buildings that integrate solar energy into architectural form.
Today, as Founder and Creative Director of The Lightworks Group, Solar Arts Co, and Suncatcher Living, George is on a mission to design and build beautifully engineered solar structures. His work turns renewable energy from a functional requirement into an architectural feature, creating buildings that are powerful, elegant, sustainable, and designed for the future.
